Addressing Implicit Biases in the Workplace
The Washington State Healthcare Executives Forum Diversity Committee in conjunction with the Asian Healthcare Leaders Forum is planning this workshop to equip healthcare leaders of color and allies with practical tools for navigating implicit bias in the workplace and overcoming barriers to potential advancement in the healthcare field.
Workshop leader will be ChrisTiana ObeySumner, MNPL – social justice advocate and educator.
Successful outcomes for this workshop would achieve the following for each participant:
1. Participants will obtain a general overview of what microaggressions and implicit biases are colloquially, sociologically, psychologically, and ways to identify them in lived and observed contexts.
2. Participants will learn theoretical and embodied tools and awareness of psychosocial impacts of microaggressions and biases when experienced more often than seldom, and how to address the issue inter- and intra-personally in the professional and social context.
3. Participants will receive an introduction to cultural humility and on narrative identity development via activities, group discussions, and journaling. These activities will provide a basic framework for continued personal development.
